Federalists vs Republicans - The two earliest political parties in the United States history were the Federalists who where led by Washington and Hamilton and the Republicans who where led by Jefferson and Madison. The Federalists set in motion the new United States government. While they had many good laws and gain foreign nations respect many people thought that the Federalists wished to establish a monarchy with George Washington as king. The people who believe this called themselves Republicans because they wished for a republic.
